A significant portion of our activities are in high biodiversity regions in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems located in major biomes. To work in ecologically relevant areas, over and beyond regulatory requirements, we meet the criteria set forth under our standards and rules geared toward knowing, preventing and minimizing the risks and impacts to biodiversity and ecosystem services.
We take biodiversity into account when planning new projects and in our daily operations. For example, the directional drilling approach may be more suitable if we need avoid damage to sensitive areas when deploying a pipeline because it runs below the surface of the soil, with no need for trenching. Meanwhile, insofar as the recovery of areas degraded by erosion or by the effect of our activities is concerned, we take care to restore their ecological functions, associating methods for ecological restoration to the engineering and geology techniques.
